Story Summaries
Session 1
A handful of Arcanarines are summoned to the deepest levels of the Oso Arcanum for what they thought was just another covert mission – only this time, they're not alone in the briefing room. Dean Av'en gives four elite agents a mission that will require all of them. Arcanarine Agent Lavendar, who was last seen in the city of Zyroka, is missing and presumed dead. The orders for this quartet of strangers is to finish her mission and take down her target – a self-proclaimed prophet named Izetal.
Session 2
Agents Twig, Terry, Phoenix, Ratatat and their trainees load up griffins with supplies and teleport from the Arcanum across the continent into Umbar. After flying over the rainforest for hours, the party lands and Twig casts a spell so the group can travel to Zyroka as fast as the wind. When passing over a herd of large animals in the jungle, Ratatat can't resist a detour to investigate. He's joined by Terry as Twig and Phoenix continue with the mission, reaching outside the city walls. When Ratatat and Terry eventually continue on, the flying spell ends before Zyroka and they notice what looks like large birds deeper in the jungle. Going off road on foot, the pair discover the grisly remains of an elf and the enchanting song of something above.
Session 3
A murder of harpies peer down at Agents Ratatat and Terry from the jungle canopy. Ratatat realizes what happened to the disemboweled corpse nearby, but Terry is captivated by the she-birds beautiful songs – getting trapped in quicksand as he drifts towards them. Meanwhile, back at Zyroka, Twig and Phoenix scout the outer gate and enter the city for reconnaissance, meeting Constable Mar Sha and studying some nearby graffiti. When a small boy runs through the gates screaming for help, Twig and Phoenix go with him back into the jungle. Ratatat and Terry are lifted into the air by the harpies and taken toward a large tree in the distance, but a volley of fire from the ground below ignites a daring rescue.
Session 4
With dead harpies scattered and the rest fleeing, the Agents try to hide their connection to each other from farm boy Paulie Nargzang before sending him off home alone in the jungle at dusk. Agents Twig and Pheonix return to Zyroka while Terry and Ratatat hitch a ride into the city on a yam farmer's cart. Upon their return, Constable Mar Sha gives Phoenix and Twig a lead in the Palace District for Phoenix's alibi quest to find an ancient goblin headdress. When Terry and Ratatat arrive in Zyroka, they investigate the graffiti and look for a place to stable the griffins, which they left outside the walls with the trainees. Twig and Terran search for leads at the Creaky Rat and get a glimpse into the class warfare gripping Zyroka before renting a room at the Black Hog and Trough Inn in Old District. Ratatat and Terry are unsuccessful in finding a place to stable the griffins, but Ratatat comes up with a plan to house them in the Palace District that will require the help of some old friends.
Session 5
As both pairs of Arcanarines retire to separate locations for their first night in Zyroka, Agent Phoenix discovers Twig is missing from their room. Agents Ratatat and Terry settle in at the River Stench Inn in River District with plans to meet their comrades for breakfast next morning. When they arrive at Stewart's Fish Salmon, Phoenix gently informs his team that Twig has been missing since last night. The trio debate informing command at Oso Arcanum before heading back to Refugee District to speak with Constable Mar Sha. Phoenix angrily pleads with the Constable for help finding Twig before threatening to report him to his superiors. Ratatat speaks with the Constable and learns that many people have gone missing in Zyroka recently. Constable Mar Sha and Ratatat head to Old District to follow up with reports of strange lights and sounds in a temple's graveyard. Terry and Phoenix suspiciously trail them.
Session 5.5
Where did Agent Twig go? While meditating in his room, Twig hears an elven woman looking for help outside his window in the Town Square below. Seeing a guard brush her off and two thugs follow her down an alley, Twig leaps through the window to ensure she is safe. When two more thugs emerge to mug the woman, the Bloody Elf remains true to his name. With the threats lying in the gutter, Twig decides to help the elvish woman, Doda Na'wei, find her missing brother in the jungle beyond the city walls. Heading into the marsh in the dead of night, the pair quietly make their way through the swampy darkness, navigating strange noises and sounds. Picking up a trail and discovering the bodies of slaughtered animals, the duo eventually find the remains of Doda's brother, Dodu, who was apparently killed by harpies. As Twig and Doda bring her brother's body home, they notice signs of a strange animal around them. Twig heads into the brush alone to challenge the creature singlehandedly. When the threat turns out to be Sa'Car Ma, the guardian spirit of Doda's tribe, Twig almost meets his end before putting down the Wolf Mother, despite the pleas of Doda. By dawn, Twig and Doda reach her tribe's camp in the treetops and Twig speaks with the Elder.
Session 6
Arriving in Old District to investigate weird sightings at the Temple of Pelkor, Agents Ratatat and Terry head inside with Constable Mar Sha while Phoenix returns to the Black Hog and Trough Inn, finding a battered Twig sitting in their room. They rendezvous with the others at the temple and meet its priest, Joran Bolgrane, who explains the strange lights and sounds in the graveyard lately. The Arcanarines learn more about the temple, Pelkor, and Zyroka's Munari history, including the infamous raider, Oktar the Choppy Wave. The Agents study a magical stone chest that legends say grants the Boon of Pelkor before searching the tombstones for clues, discovering traces of ectoplasm. While they wait for nightfall to return to the temple, the Arcanarines debate following a lead into the sewers when all of a sudden a voices carries over the crowd gathered in the Town Square. “Brothers! Sisters! Gather round! For Izetal is here!”
Session 7
Discreetly dispersing into the assembled crowd at the Town Square, the Arcanarines listen to the message of Izetal. Three followers preach to the crowd that Izetal and It's way will rise through Zyroka. A strange incense smokes its way through the rabble, with three of the Agents discerning it has magical properties. After the sermon, Agent Phoenix approaches the orator to learn more and is told to meet with them later that night to see Izetal. When the three followers leave, the Arcanarines trail them, splitting off one by one as each cultist peels off in a different direction. As Phoenix enjoys a bath at the Black Hog and Trough Inn before his meeting with Izetal, Agents Ratatat, Terry, and Twig are lead further and further apart. But the hour of Izetal and the Temple of Pelkor is approaching.
Session 8
The Arcanarines each must decide what to do after finding themselves scattered throughout Zyroka alone. Agent Twig's target inside a warehouse and his accomplices are slaughtered by criminals claiming the place belongs to them. Twig manages to convince the crew he could help them take back their base in the sewers. Agent Terry convinces his the teenagers he was following that he's one of them and tags a guard post with Izetal's eye before fleeing. Agent Ratatat followed Izetal's orator to the flood plains where he deceived some intel before asking the lost boy Paulie's mother his whereabouts. Agent Phoenix investigates a strange noise outside his hotel room before heading to the meeting spot for Izetal's followers, but no one is there. The rest of the team joins Phoenix behind Ol' Yeller's Wheat and Rye and try to figure out what's going on.
